Ambassador Nasimi Aghayev Visits Saarland – Strengthening Economic and Academic Cooperation
The Ambassador of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Germany, Nasimi Aghayev, visited Saarland on March 10-11, 2025, and held discussions with key representatives from politics, business, and academia to further expand bilateral relations.
During his meeting with Jürgen Barke, Deputy Minister President and Minister for Economy, Innovation, Digitalization, and Energy, the focus was on economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and Saarland. Ambassador Aghayev highlighted Azerbaijan’s economic potential and presented investment opportunities for Saarland-based companies. Trade relations, new fields of cooperation, and joint projects were also discussed.
With Dr. Frank Thomé, Chief Executive Officer of the Saarland Chamber of Industry and Commerce, the Ambassador spoke about Azerbaijan’s attractiveness as an investment location. Key topics included opportunities for Saarland companies in Azerbaijan’s growing economic sector and ongoing major projects in the fields of energy and transport.
Another key aspect of the visit was the exchange with Prof. Dr. Dominik Brodowski, Vice President for Internationalization and Europe at Saarland University, and Prof. Dr. Marc Bungenberg, Director of the Europa-Institut at the university. Ambassador Aghayev, who completed his Master of European Law (LL.M.) at the Europa-Institut from 2003 to 2005, acknowledged the long-standing connection between Saarland University and Azerbaijan. Currently, 41 Azerbaijani students are enrolled at the university, including 12 at the Europa-Institut. The discussion focused on opportunities to deepen cooperation with Azerbaijani universities.
At the conclusion of his visit, the Ambassador met with Azerbaijani students at the Europa-Institut for a personal exchange. He inquired about their experiences and emphasized the crucial role of the younger generation in strengthening German-Azerbaijani relations.
The visit highlights the growing momentum in economic and academic collaboration between Azerbaijan and Saarland, opening up new prospects for an enhanced partnership.
