Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Strengthens Ties with Hesse During Official Visit
Nasimi Aghayev, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador to Germany, paid an official visit to the German federal state of Hesse on March 27 and 28, 2025 — a gesture underscoring the commitment to deepening bilateral relations. His two-day visit included stops in Wiesbaden, the state capital, and Frankfurt am Main, the economic heart of the region.
In Wiesbaden, Ambassador Aghayev held high-level meetings with Astrid Wallmann, President of the Hessian State Parliament, and Kaveh Mansoori, Hesse’s Minister for Economic Affairs, Energy, Transport, Housing, and Rural Areas, who also serves as Deputy Prime Minister. Discussions focused on expanding cooperation in key areas such as renewable energy, logistics, and other future-oriented sectors.
To mark the ambassador’s inaugural visit, the flag of Azerbaijan was ceremonially raised outside the Hessian Parliament. Ambassador Aghayev also signed the official guestbook and was formally introduced to members of parliament during a plenary session.
A key highlight of the visit was a meeting with Oliver Schwebel, Vice President of the Frankfurt Chamber of Industry and Commerce, along with senior representatives from prominent businesses. Talks centered on concrete strategies to enhance economic collaboration and explore investment opportunities in Azerbaijan.
Promoting intercultural dialogue was also an important aspect of the visit. Ambassador Aghayev met with leaders of Frankfurt’s Jewish community, including Chairman Marc Grünbaum and Chief Rabbi Avichai Apel, as well as Alon Meyer, President of Makkabi Germany, and Avi Shefatja, Chairman of the Community of Caucasian Jews. The ambassador highlighted the historical presence of Jewish communities in Azerbaijan and the country’s longstanding tradition of peaceful coexistence, mutual respect, and tolerance.
The visit concluded with a meeting with members of the Azerbaijani diaspora in Frankfurt, focusing on cultural identity, community networking, and strengthening connections with the homeland.
