The photo book “German Traces in Azerbaijan” was published
On the initiative and with the support of the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Germany, the photo book “German Traces in Azerbaijan” by renowned photographer Etibar Jafarov has been published.
This unique publication, released in German and English, presents through striking images the rich history, culture, and contributions of Germans in our country. The German historian Professor Eva-Maria Auch also took an active part in preparing the photo book.
In his foreword, ambassador Nasimi Aghayev emphasizes that the historical coexistence of Germans in Azerbaijan in peace and harmony stands as a remarkable example of intercultural and interreligious harmony, and as an invaluable manifestation of mutual respect and tolerance in our country. The Germans who settled in Azerbaijan in the early 19th century left a lasting mark in architecture, economy, science, and culture.
The Ambassador notes that in 2017, by decree of President Ilham Aliyev, the 200th anniversary of the establishment of German settlements in the South Caucasus was commemorated. At Azerbaijan’s initiative, this significant event was included in UNESCO’s official anniversaries program and recognized internationally.
Etibar Jafarov’s book visually showcases the life of Germans in Azerbaijan, examples of architecture, business activities, as well as the twinning relations between Azerbaijani and German cities. Each photograph tells a unique story that sheds light on this shared history.
This publication is a valuable contribution to passing on the historic friendship and cultural ties between the Azerbaijani and German peoples to future generations. The Embassy will widely distribute the book among political, economic, scientific, cultural, and media circles in Germany.
