History of bilateral relations

The Federal Republic of Germany was one of the first states that recognized the independence of the Republic of Azerbaijan (12 January 1992). The diplomatic relations between two countries were established on February 20, 1992. The Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Germany was opened on September 2, 1992, and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Azerbaijan on September 22, 1992. That was the first Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Western Europe.
