Scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 650th anniversary of Imadaddin Nasimi was held at Berlin's Humboldt University

On September 23, the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan to the Federal Republic of Germany, the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO and the Department of Azerbaijani History at Berlin Humboldt University co-organized a scientific and practical conference dedicated to the 650th anniversary of the great Azerbaijani poet and thinker Imadaddin Nasimi.

H.E. Mr. Ramin Hasanov, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijani to the Federal Republic of Germany, made an opening speech and informed the audience about life and works of Nasimi, one of the prominent representatives of classical Azerbaijani poetry.

Ambassador stressed that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan signed an Order on "650th Anniversary of the Great Azerbaijani Poet Imadaddin Nasimi" and that 2019 was declared the Year of Nasimi in our country as well by another decree of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. The 650th anniversary of Nasimi is widely celebrated in our country and abroad.

Secretary General of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO, Ambassador Elnur Sultanov spoke about the importance of Imadaddin Nasimi's works for Azerbaijani literature. E.Sultanov noted that at the initiative of national leader Heydar Aliyev, Nasimi's 600th anniversary was included in the UNESCO World Heritage List and celebrated internationally. A series of events dedicated to Nasimi were held in our country and beyond. Elnur Sultanov spoke about the importance of the "Nasimi Festival of Poetry, Arts, and Spirituality" initiated by Vice-President of the Heydar Aliyev Foundation Leyla Aliyeva in 2018. He informed about the activities of the National Commission of the Republic of Azerbaijan for UNESCO. He emphasized that H.E. Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, First Vice-President of the Republic of Azerbaijan and Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO, has exceptional services in the development of cooperation between Azerbaijan and UNESCO.

Speaking at the conference, Professor of the Universities of Giessen and Berlin, Nasimi researcher Michael Reinhard provided information on Nasimi's works and translations of his works into other languages and German as well. He noted that Nasimi raised Azerbaijani Turkic literature to the level of Arabic and Persian poetry. At the same time, Nasimi, who placed great role to Azerbaijani language in his works, raised his mother's language to a high literary level. He told that the main themes of his poetry were Man, Universe, Love and God.

The conference continued in an interactive form, moderated by Professor Eva-Maria Aux, head of the department of Azerbaijani history at Humboldt University of Berlin.
