Chairwoman of the National Assembly of Azerbaijan, Dr Sahiba Gafarova, visits Berlin

The parliamentary delegation led by the Chairwoman of the National Assembly (Parliament - Milli Majlis) of Azerbaijan, Dr Sahiba Gafarova, visited the Federal Republic of Germany on 29 and 30 November 2023. In addition to the Speaker of the National Assembly, the delegation consisted of the Head of the Working Group on Interparliamentary Relations with Germany Mr Nurlan Hasanov, MPs Mr Elnur Allahverdiyev, Mr Soltan Mammadov and Mr Elshan Musayev, as well as the Head of the Parliamentary Administration Mr Farid Hajiyev and other high-ranking representatives of the Parliamentary Administration.

During the visit, Dr Sahiba Gafarova met with the President of the German Bundestag, Bärbel Bas. At the meeting, it was emphasised that Azerbaijan and Germany are friendly and partner countries. The two sides exchanged views on relations between the two countries and their parliaments. It was noted that bilateral relations are developing successfully in many areas and that there are good opportunities for further expansion of relations. It was pointed out that the visit of the Chairwoman of the Azerbaijani National Assembly to Germany will have a positive impact on the further development of bilateral relations.

A reception was held at the Azerbaijani Cultural Centre in Berlin to mark the visit of the Azerbaijani delegation. The reception was attended by members of the Bundestag, foreign ambassadors, high-ranking representatives of the Federal Foreign Office and other state authorities as well as academics, cultural figures, representatives of various companies, business people and representatives of the Azerbaijani diaspora.

Other items on the programme of the visit included meetings with representatives of the German-Azerbaijani Forum, members of the German-South Caucasian Parliamentary Group of the German Bundestag and its chairman Johann David Wadephul as well as a visit to the photo exhibition "Heydar Aliyev and the Cultural Heritage of Azerbaijan" at the QGallery Berlin. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Germany, H.E. Mr Nasimi Aghayev, also took part in the meetings of the parliamentary delegation.
