Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Foreign Minister of Germany

 Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Frank-Walter Steinmeier, Federal Foreign Minister of Germany on the sidelines of the 70th Session of the UN General Assembly on 28 September, 2015.

At the meeting giving a brief information about the latest situation of Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov underlined that the main purpose of Armenia is to inflict damage to the negotiation process with the provocative actions and to maintain the current status-quo, which is based on occupation and aggression. The Minister highlighted that, for the resolution of the conflict, first and foremost, the armed forced of Armenia must be withdrawn from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, the fact of aggression and occupation fact has to be ended and the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan within its internationally recognized borders has to be provided.

The Minister added that instead of withdrawing its armed forced from the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, continuation of annexionist policy of Armenia constitutes the the main obstacle for the resolution of conflict and undermines the regional peace and security. He also underlined the necessity of active involvement and close engagement of all OSCE Minsk Group members into the conflict resolution process.

The Ministers exchanged their views on the agenda and priorities of Germany's Chairmanship in OSCE's Chairman-in-Office for the next year. German Foreign Minister added that they have huge expectations from the OSCE and the modernization of the organization will be on the agenda as a priority issue.

Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed the need for the for the improvement of the OSCE and its institution as well as the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights. Noting that the statement of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights regarding the elections in Azerbaijan is contrary to the mandate of the ODIHR, the Minister stressed that the election monitoring methodology of ODIHR has to be scrutinized.

Touching upon the European Parliament's resolution about Azerbaijan, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that certain groups at the European Parliament sought the goal of undermining the relations of Azerbaijan with the European Union by adoption of this resolution.

At the meeting the sides also exchanged views on the Syrian crisis and its consequences, foreign militants joining to the international terrorist network and the migration problem.
