Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Christoph Heusgen, the foreign and security policy advisor of Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan Elmar Mammadyarov paid a working visit to the Federal Republic of Germany on May 11, 2016.

On the sidelines of his visit, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov met with Christoph Heusgen, the foreign and security policy advisor of Angela Merkel, Chancellor of the Federal Republic of Germany and head of the Chancellery directorate responsible for foreign, security and international development policy.

During the meeting, the sides exchanged their views on the Azerbaijan-Germany and Azerbaijan-European Union relations, energy cooperation, TAP and TANAP projects, economic cooperation, Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, international and regional issues.

Briefing about the current situation on the Armenia-Azerbaijan conflict, Minister Elmar Mammadyarov stressed that the armed forces of Armenia committed war crimes against Azerbaijani civilians during military operations and the Armenian side made provocative statements on that. Elmar Mammadyarov also underlined the importance of OSCE’s being more active in the resolution process of the conflict and expressed his hope for the Germany’s contribution during its chairmanship of the OSCE, in this regard.

At the meeting, the sides expressed satisfaction with the current level of political dialogue and economic cooperation between the two states and emphasized that the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev’s visits to Germany during the last two years contributed to the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Germany.
